Refurbished, vintage, old-school - whatever you want to call it, I'm all about it. I love how vintage often means "well made" and how each refurbished, vintage item has its' own story to tell. I think my love for vintage began with my wedding and engagement rings. I often wonder about their story - according to Annie it was bought originally by a wealthy winery owner in Italy, for the love of his life - a beautiful maiden who crushed grapes with her feet to make his delicious wine. :) Whatever the story, it has a history and that is what I love about it (oh and the sparkly diamonds don't hurt either...).
So I am finding lately that my love of vintage is blossoming to include a love of estate sales and refurbished/used building supply stores. I recently found a fantastic radiator cover at one of these stores that I plan to convert in to a bench with caster wheels for our living room (more pics of that one to come!). My latest find came just this morning - a 1950s Royal "Futura" typewriter - it's in perfect condition, with the original case and everything. I actually missed it the first time around this small estate sale. I was about to leave when something told me to look again. And there it was...
I love, love, love it. The woman who sold it to me said her mom used the typewriter to write letters to her when she was in college. I paid $25 for it and have since found the same typewriter selling for $300-$400 online. For me it's not about the price though, it's about the solid construction, the design and most importantly, the story it has to tell.
