One of my goals over the past few months has been to get our living room pulled together, affordably (empahsis on the affordably!). I've been scanning Craigslist for a few of my favorite things and finally found the couch that I was looking for. It's from IKEA. Basic and modern. Once we're through the toddler years, we'll replace it with something of a little higher quality, but for now it's fun to have a new couch with a little more style (we bought our old couch seven years ago with credit from returned wedding gifts at Macy's - it will be hitting Craigslist along with our tired Pottery Barn rug early next week).
The other thing I have been keeping my eye out for is a rug. If you've ever shopped for a rug you know - they are NOT cheap! Everything I have found that I like comes with a $1000 price tag - not going to happen. Enter Target. I was browsing there the other day and spotted a 5x8 Dwell Studio for Target rug that was fantastic! Perfect colors and a steal at $140. Sold!
So here are some pictures of how the living room looks today. We still have some work to do, but we're getting there. (By the way - I found the cute basket in the third picture at TJ Maxx for $12.99!)
Next steps:
- Finally choosing a paint color for the living room and hiring someone to do the job. Right now I'm trying to decide between Benjamin Moore's China White (very neutral) or Yarmouth Blue. I'm leaning towards China White because the dining room color is so bold (Ralph Lauren's Renoir). I think a neutral with pops of color in couch pillows and art would look nice.
- Hang art
- Re-grout tile around fireplace
- Paint secretary desk (more on that later!)
- Replace wood couch legs with aluminum ones
I love this stuff. :)

Love the rug and sofa. We have been looking for a rug for our living room that is around 10 x 12, but the prices are crazy. May have to settle for what we have.

Looks great Molly! Isn't it fun decorating??? :) I have been looking for rugs as well and totally know what you mean. I think we might settle on a shag from Home Depot--I think it was only $200. . .

Hi Molly! Happy to see you back blogging. I love everything you have done...nice work! and all inexpensive finds. Fantastic! We love Benjamin Moor paints. We just did out bedroom in their new Aura paint and I highly recommend the added cost. It goes on so well! We did our living room with the regular BM paints and it was actually an amazing difference.
