Bathroom renovations

Tenish weeks and counting until this new little one joins us. Whew, we've got a lot to do! We spent this weekend doing some demo in the bathroom. Here is how it looked before:

This weekend, we:

  • tore out the poorly installed beadboard/baseboards (we don't think the previous owners knew about finish nails...)
  • replaced the pedistal sink with a new sink/sink cabinet from Ikea
  • removed the 1980s mirrored medicine cabinet - only to find a large hole and two ancient light sockets under it. We had wanted to put in a tilt mirror, but we found a nice plain (cheap!) Ikea one that will cover all of this up so we don't have to worry about re-doing the wall
  • replaced the broken faucet handles in the shower

What a difference, it already looks SO much better (with the exception of the unsightly hole and sockets!). The tile is definitely better suited to a more modern look, the beadboard just didn't match. We still have quite a bit of work to do (fixing holes in the plaster, painting, installing new baseboard and 1/4 round, putting up the mirror, etc.), but we're making progress. I didn't get a chance to take any after pictures, but will post some soon.

Justin and I have decided that we just don't have the stamina that we used to for these kinds of things. Could it be that what used to be simply a weekend of house projects now also requires entertaining a two year old? Nah! :) Thank goodness we had some "Jillysitting" help from Grandma Joan this weekend - we definitely couldn't have done what we did without her!

Off to bed...a busy week ahead!
