Octagons and some other stuff

Oh how I am going to miss the sounds of a toddler learning to talk around here! I absolutely love this stage where they are learning new words every day. Nate's latest word revealed itself tonight when he was playing with his shape sorter and asked "Where da octagon go?" I almost spit out my gin and tonic! Justin says he never told Nate about octagons and I didn't either so he must have learned it at school. What a smart boy!

On 12/29 we took Nate in to the doctor for his two year well-baby check up. His stats are pretty impressive and very comparable to his sister's at this age.

Nate's weight at 2: 32 lbs
Jill's weight at 2: 30 lbs

Nate's height at 2: 35-3/8 inches
Jill's height at 2: 35-1/2 inches

Meanwhile Jill is currently 45 pounds and almost 45 inches tall! She is close to being the youngest child in her preschool class and is the tallest. I'm thinking we should have more kids so we can form our own professional basketball team...on second thought, two is enough thank you very much!

Nate is thriving at his daycare and even took a nap today without his binky since they couldn't locate it at nap time. We are thinking that we may try a trial period of napping sans binky. Why not? Nate will move to the preschool that Jill goes to in June. I will be so excited to only have one drop off for a couple of months. Then it's on to kindergarten for Jill!! (insert lump in my throat here)

Speaking of binkys, Jill is doing FANTASTIC without her b-i-n-k-y. She still asks for it periodically, but is usually easily distracted. The thing that is most impressive to me is that she hasn't once questioned why Nate still has his binky when she can't have hers. I think that is the sign of a very mature little girl! Jill is a wonderful big sister in so many ways. An additional piece of good news - Jill is sleeping through the night MUCH more often these days. Probably a combination of the binky's departure and the fact that she is taking naps less often at school. I'm very thankful for this as the interrupted sleep was really starting to wear on me. I realize now that Jill probably wasn't getting good rest either. All around I feel that the decision to take away the binky at this point was a good one - whew!

I can't believe how much they have grown!!
